Economical
extraction system

Haas Fertigbau
The Haas Group is one of the leading companies in prefabricated timber house construction in Europe. Around 1000 people are employed at 3 production sites in Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic as well as at locations of show houses and sales offices.

As part of the expansion and process optimisation, investments were made in a new, automated wall production line in Falkenberg. A new extraction sytem was also required for this new production line. The responsible SPÄNEX sales representative, Mr. Manfred Rieder – SPÄNEX Bavarian Sales Office, recorded the customer's data on site and discussed the details with the responsible persons at Haas. The requirements for the new extraction system can be summarised as follows:

  • Machines to be connected: 5,
  • Materials to be extracted alternately: wood, plaster,

  • Traverse paths of 2 CNC bridges: 30 m,

  • Maximum extraction air volume (including reserve capacity) for each type of material: 10,000 m³/h,

  • Mode of operation: discontinuous,

  • Air recirculation: 100 %,

  • Wood chip disposal: connection to existing pneumatic transport system,

  • Material disposal plaster: Container,
  • Quiet operation and

  • Best possible energy efficiency.

To solve this extraction task, a dust extractor from the SMU series (Fig. 1) was selected from the SPÄNEX product range for each type of material.

The dust extractors are compact extraction units which, due to their design, may be installed directly in the working area when extracting organic dusts of dust explosion class St1.

The individual processing machines are each connected to the dust extractor 1 and to the dust extractor 2 (arrangement on underframe), so that the material separation enables the wood chips to be used and the plaster residues to be disposed of.

The planning of the complex piping system, especially with the two 30 m long suction slot ducts for the two CNC bridge machines, was difficult, as support fans (Fig. 2) had to be used in view of the higher flow resistances compared to the other processing machines. The fine adjustment of the suction volume flows is taken over by the speed controls of the two dust extractors, whereby the motor speed of the extraction fans is automatically adjusted via the frequency converters depending on the required suction power.

The concept of this technical plant solution convinced the management of Haas Fertigbau GmbH, so that SPÄNEX was ordered to supply and install the extraction system.

After about six months of operation, the Haas employee responsible for the system technology summarises the experience with the new extraction system so far as follows:

„The technical system solution functions excellently and convinces with its performance and operational reliability as well as the energy-saving mode of operation.“
